Engineered Timber Flooring FAQ’s

  • What is engineered timber flooring?

Engineered timber flooring is made of multiple layers bonded together. The top layer, known as the lamella, is a timber veneer that gives it the authentic timber look. The core is made of a cross-laminated hardwood, block board or plywood to improve strength and dimensional stability. Finally, the backing layer protects the boards.

  • What are Arbre® engineered timber boards finished with?

Arbre® engineered timber flooring is finished with BONA® UV-cured coating system. It provides a tough, scratch-resistant surface that’s also low in VOCs. The high-performance coating also makes Arbre® a great option for clients looking for low-maintenance, long-lasting timber floors.

  • How do I maintain my engineered timber flooring?

Regular maintenance and proper care will ensure you get the most out of your engineered timber flooring. The following will help to keep your flooring looking its best.

    • Use entrance mats
    • Floor coverings in high traffic areas
    • Floor protection pads under furniture
    • Remove high heel shoes
    • Clean up spills immediately
    • Limit direct UV exposure
    • Trim and maintain pet’s claws
    • Regular vacuuming and sweeping
    • Use a floor cleaner monthly or fortnightly. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

DO NOT USE: Harsh chemicals like detergents, bleaches, abrasive/oil soaps as these may damage the coating of the flooring.

  • Do you need to acclimatise engineered timber flooring?

The flooring should be placed onsite 24-48 hours prior to installation to acclimatise to the new environment.

  • Can engineered timber flooring be installed in wet areas?

In accordance with the Building Code of Australia, engineered flooring is not to be installed in wet areas such as bathrooms, toilets and laundries. Kitchen and food preparation areas are not deemed to be wet areas.

  • Can I install underfloor heating with my engineered flooring?

Yes. Engineered Timber Flooring can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating, however, special considerations and requirements must be met. Always consult with the manufacturer directly to ensure the suitability of the selected underfloor heating for the product.
