The Benefits of Pre-Coated Timber Cladding

Factory Coated Timber Cladding

Timber cladding remains a popular choice in contemporary homes for its natural warmth, durability, and timeless appeal. But when it comes to efficiency on site and long-term performance, pre-coated timber cladding offers several advantages. More than a factory finish, pre-coated cladding improves timber stability, speeds up installation, and protects the timber, even in transit.

Full Protection

One of the key benefits of pre-coated timber cladding is its reliable, full protection. Unlike on-site coatings that typically cover the exposed face only, pre-coated cladding is applied on all four sides. Coated in a factory, it ensures consistent coverage, including edges and backing areas that are often vulnerable to moisture ingress.

Minimises moisture absorption

When timber absorbs moisture unevenly, it can lead to cupping, swelling, warping, or distortion over time. Pre-coated timber significantly reduces this risk by limiting moisture absorption from all sides of the board, not just the face of the board.

Improves Stability

Pre-coating enhances the dimensional stability of timber cladding, helping boards maintain its performance throughout its lifespan. For builders, this means greater confidence in the finished result and reduced maintenance concerns over time.

Faster Installation

Pre-coated timber cladding can also improve jobsite efficiency. With boards arriving ready for installation, builders can minimise on-site coating, reduce labour costs and shorten project timelines. This can be valuable on larger projects or during periods of unpredictable weather. Pre-coated timber is also less impacted by wet weather during delivery and installation, helping with scheduling deliveries.

Bowens uses Intergrain Industrial Oil, specifically formulated for use in pre-coating machines. This new formulation allows builders and trades to select either a water-based or oil-based topcoat from the Intergrain and Cabots Decking Oils Range.

Note: Please note that pre-coated timber products are a primer coat and still require a topcoat to be applied once the timber is installed. Allow 5 working days from time of order to delivery, however, feel free to contact our team if you need to confirm a specific time.
