Sustainability

Offcuts and unwanted materials onsite, more than often go into skip bins that are sent to landfill. However, waste from the manufacture of timber products is readily recycled. “All waste that goes off site is recycled either internally or externally into mulch and other manufactured wood products.” Mark explains.

So, are prefab timber trusses really the way forward? According to Mark, there is a well-accepted view within the industry that prefabricated supply is the way to go. However, he admits it does come down to builder and trade preference. The more builders that work with prefab timber products, the more confident they will become in transitioning into using them.

“I’ve spoken to trades that work for builders that only do on site wall builds and not prefab walls because that’s the way the builder likes doing it. But the next generation of trades might love prefab because that’s all they’ll know.”
