Overcoming Obstacles and Pioneering New Paths

Helma’s journey to success was marked by significant challenges and the ability to triumph over adversity. Originally from Holland, Helma embarked on a new chapter in her life when she migrated to Australia with her husband in 1981. Their arrival was accompanied by numerous hurdles, including temporary housing in an immigration centre and starting from the ground up in unfamiliar industries.

From her initial job of picking potatoes to working at Bendix Brakes and even venturing into dairy farming, Helma’s early years in Australia were a testament to her resilience and determination. She navigated the demanding responsibilities of motherhood, managed a dairy farm, and pursued her studies in accounting while working full-time in administration at a law firm.

A Transformational Journey in the Construction Industry

Helma’s foray into the construction industry marked a turning point in her career, setting the stage for her remarkable achievements and contributions. During a family trip to Holland, Helma’s encounter with a transportable company ignited her fascination with innovative design and efficient construction methods. The experience kindled her passion for the industry and laid the foundation for her future endeavours.

Founding Neatline Homes

In 2000, Helma embarked on a new venture and established Neatline Homes, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in her professional life. Amidst the demands of raising two young daughters and managing multiple businesses, she dedicated countless hours to learning, training, and studying to expand her skillset. Under Helma’s leadership, Neatline Homes thrived and became synonymous with quality, innovation, and a commitment to the community.

What started as a modest enterprise producing a handful of homes annually on a small plot of land has grown exponentially. Today, Neatline Homes constructs 50 homes per year and has expanded its reach to include a diverse range of commercial projects, such as schools, hospitals, dental clinics, and collaborations with government initiatives.

A Philanthropic Force

Helma’s dedication to giving back has extended beyond her professional pursuits. She actively supports charitable dayevents and has raised over a million dollars for the local retirement village. For over two decades, Helma worked tirelessly alongside her late husband in partnership with Rotary, leaving a profound and enduring impact. Together, they spearheaded initiatives like a drug rehabilitation center, offering valuable training and employment opportunities. Their remarkable contributions were honored with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow recognition, awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service, aiding those in need, or a method of recognising a substantial donation to The Rotary Foundation. Helma’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity extends to the future as she prepares the next generation to carry the torch.

Neatline Homes remains a family-owned and operated company, with Helma working side by side with her two daughters, Kristel and Steph, in the day to-day management of the business. Their shared vision ensures the company’s continued success.
