Over my years in the timber industry, I think I can truly say I have expertise in the flooring and installation side of our business. I have 10 years of experience engaged in supply and installation packages. Also, as Bowens officer investigating problem jobs for over 20 years, I found many of those problems were related to flooring.

Having said that, I also learnt that those who register complaints against the timber industry usually had flooring heading their lists.

The most common flooring complaints include:

• Excessive gapping in flooring
• Floorboards cupping/ peaking
• Squeaking floorboards
• Boards out of grade
• Variation in colour in floorboards
• The boards supplied were different to the sample piece.

There are probably a few other issues that don’t come immediately to mind. So, when the company decided to advertise their flooring supply and installation service, I decided measures needed to be put in place to minimise potential problems.

For instance, if you wish to order a flooring product for supply only, we will issue our suggested installation guidelines for that product. These guidelines walk you through pre-installation and installation recommendations such as;

• Adequate ventilation
• Level substrate
• Check that water does not pool under the house (traditional timber floor)
• Ensure substrate is dry
• Fixing type (secret, face)
• Membranes and more.

On the other hand, if you wish to order flooring and installation, we will undertake a pre-site inspection to ensure there are no existing issues that would negatively affect the performance of the flooring product (conditions apply). The pre-site inspection may include;

• Check for level
• Address the extent of flooring and inclusions (nosings, transitions etc)
• Measure for quantities
• Full quote
• Substrate moisture content testing prior to flooring installation and more.
